Am I Lactose Intolerant? Every Time I Eat Dairy I End Up in the Bathroom!

Dairy or Lactose intolerance occurs when the body does not have enough lactate – the enzyme responsible for breaking down the sugars found in milk. Once these sugars are broken down into a simple form -glucose and galactase- your body absorbs them through the small intestine.

When lactose cannot be properly digested, bacteria in the colon cause the lactose to ferment producing gas. The remaining lactose draws water from the intestine. The results… the unpleasant symptoms of lactose intolerance. If you can relate, you are no doubt lactose intolerant.

A self- diagnosis is simple. Simply avoid all dairy for a few days. After your milk moratorium, consume a few glasses of milk or a bowl of ice-cream and wait to see what happens. If you feel those unpleasant but familiar discomforts in your abdomen, then odds are you’re lactose intolerant.

“So, I am lactose Intolerant, what do I do now?” you ask. Well one option is to avoid dairy all together. I am not suggesting avoidance as an alternative; I am simply saying that some people practice avoidance. I am strongly against this practice and definitely do not recommended it. Dairy is a crucial element to a healthy diet and by avoiding dairy you’re also avoiding calcium, minerals and nutrients your body needs to remain strong and healthy.

Another option is to pre-treat dairy products, that is to say add the enzyme to the milk 24 hours before you consume it. A possible solution which may allow you to consume milk but what about all other dairy products? Well for all other dairy I guess you could take lactase pills. There are pills on the market when taken before you consume dairy is supposed to ease the discomfort of lactose intolerance. These pills provide your intestines with the enzyme needed to break down the sugars found in milk. Although some lactose suffers have found that these pills ease some of the symptoms, the problems with these pills is that you’re forever forgetting the pills and of course the added expense as a bottle will run you around $20 to $25. The pills are a bit chalky but if they keep you off the toilet you may definitely be interested in picking up a bottle of these pills the next time you do groceries. Unfortunately all these products only treat the symptoms and not the problem.

In order to find a long-term solution, the body needs to learn how to properly condition itself to break down those sugars found in dairy. Now unless you have manifested self healing properties you should explore a process by which the enzyme lactase is reintroduced into your body. Currently, there is a product on the market that reconditions your body to accept and then create the enzymes in order for your body to digest those sugars found in dairy. The process takes 38 days. Imagine in just 38 days you may be enjoying all of your favorite dairy products without suffering from those nasty side effects.

    possible..

  2. GWOZ0Z0 says:

For how long should I ferment my raw milk?

  3. keke says:

Do not use either of these food products. Dairy consumption is associated with cancer growth and serious allergies. Soy milk can be manufactured using genetically modified soy beans (not labeled) and the beans themselves don't taste very good. Companies add artificial flavors and sweeteners to improve soy milk taste.

The best source of calcium is leafy green vegetables. Excess drinking of cow milk actually leads to osteoporosis (Nurses Study). There are many beans and whole grains that provide rich protein without teasing cancer growth.

I wouldn't use the word "quality". I think "taste" is what you are after. ;)

I would try almond milk, it doesn't taste exactly the same, but it is creamy and milky and yum!

Sri Lankan minister seeks transfer of dairy technology

    Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, MAY 7. The Bangalore Milk Union's dairy in the City had a VIP visitor on Monday in the Sri Lankan Minister for Estate Infrastructure and Livestock Development, Mr. S.R.M.Arumugan Thondaman, who was shown around the dairy by the Minister for Animal Husbandry, Mr. A.Krishnappa.

While Mr. Krishnappa told presspersons that BAMUL products could be exported to the island nation, his Sri Lankan counterpart said if there was technology transfer, his country could become self- sufficient in milk products. The ongoing civil war need not come in the way of livestock development. His was a private visit and Mr. Krishnappa had persuaded him to visit the dairy which was considered to be an Asian model, he added.

The Bangalore Dairy was set up as a joint venture of the State and Union governments with UNICEF aid, and was dedicated to the people of the City by the former Prime Minister, the late Lal Bahadur Sastri, in 1965. Spread over an area of 50 acres at the junction of Bannerghatta and Hosur roads, the dairy began functioning with an initial capacity of 50,000 litres of milk per day. It now processes 3.5 lakh litres of milk a day under the Operation Flood-3 programme.

Under the directions of the National Dairy Development Board, the Bangalore Dairy was transferred to the Bangalore Milk Union in 1988. It is today the biggest in southern India, procuring, processing and marketing up to 5.94 lakh litres of milk a day in the peak season. The National Productivity Council, Government of India, conferred the Best Productivity Award last year on the Bangalore Dairy.

State ranks second in milk production

    Special Correspondent

Achievement owing to Rs. 250-crore grant from NDDB: Dharam Singh

BANGALORE: Karnataka has been catapulted to the second position from the eighth in milk production, the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, announced here on Friday.

He was inaugurating the expansion programme of the Mother Dairy unit of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) at Yelahanka here.

He said the State was second only to Gujarat in milk production, and the achievement is on account of the Rs. 250-crore grant from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) for the growth of dairy farming.

    Utilisation of funds

The Chief Minister said the Government utilised the funds to take up expansion of milk, milk powder and ice-cream units in the past six months. The State is producing surplus milk throughout the year, and the Government is planning a joint venture with a Singapore-based firm for processing it. The KMF will start direct export of milk products to a few countries from this year, Mr. Dharam Singh said. The federation has been exporting milk powder to Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia and the Philippines through other agencies.

    Milk powder production
H.D. Revanna, Minister for Public Works and Energy and KMF Chairman, said the milk powder plant on the Mother Dairy premises at Yelahanka, which was commissioned in November for trial runs, is now ready to produce 30 tonnes of milk powder a day from 3.5 lakh litres of milk. It has been set up to process and convert surplus milk from the Bangalore, Kolar, Tumkur, Mandya and Hassan milk unions.

The KMF plans to increase the processing capacity of Mother Dairy. Infrastructure will be built at a cost of Rs. 35 crores to receive, process and convert seven lakh litres of milk daily. The KMF plans to set up a dairy at Whitefield to process milk from Mandya, Tumkur and Bangalore Rural districts, he added. The KMF enjoys a market share of 65 per cent in the State.

The Minister for Animal Husbandry and Wakf, Mirajuddin Patel, launched "Nandini curds," made from pasteurised toned milk. The Minister for Cooperation, R.V. Deshpande, lauded the KMF's initiatives and appealed to the farmers to utilise the various schemes launched by the Government.

Remember pastuerized milk is not clean milk it is ‘dead milk’

  7. dhiren123 says:

Try putting some chocolate in it. You could just not give your child anything but the milk you want them to have. Don't worry your baby will get hungry/thirsty enough to try it.

  8. Haylee says:

Well too much soy (like a lot)can have adverse effects in males. There is a protein or something that mimics estrogen.

I wouldn't say one is better just different. Different nutrients, different allergenic effects, different cons.

Dairy like anything else is not bad in moderation. Skim milk has lots of vitamins, maintains bone health and can even help weight loss.

  9. Logan says:

Soymilk is an awesome alternative in recipes that call for milk. If you are making mashed potatoes for example, just sub. plain soymilk and you are good! If it is cookies and cakes, same thing. The only thing i've ever made that did not substitute well was for an alfredo mix packet. But the packet had dairy in it anyways, so if you are vegan, you wouldn't be using that anyways. I love it, and think it makes most things taste better, and easier on the stomach. Sometimes people are just hesitant to try new things. Corn bread cooks great with soy milk!

  10. chicken_little_osu says:

The only plain soy milk that I like is Trader Joe's brand. Otherwise, I just get vanilla flavored rice or soy milk from the grocery store. Rice Dream isn't too bad to start with.

  11. Stepper4life15 says:

i love this thank you….now how do i get your milk across the u.s. to NC? :-)

  12. Erin C says:

Out of what I tried, defiantly soy. It taste better, has more nutrients, as well has better consistency. Rice is a bit too sweet and thin. Almond is creamier than soy milk and a bit too nutty. You could also try oat or hemp milk. You should try them all and various brands too, to see which you like best.

  13. yunta51 says:

    Exactly.

  14. joeys123321 says:

Great videos, i was C-sectioned, wonder if that is related to my allergies i get, raw milk here i come.

  15. mevlana says:

You got it right in your next to the last sub-question<g>. Pasteurized milk still contains germs and spores that are able to survive the brief burst of heat we call Pasteurization! Soy milk is *cooked* to produce the 'raw' soymilk and in the commercial products like Silk it gets a final heat blast just before packaging. There's just not that many organisms that can survive that kind of treatment!.

What's really wacky is that USDA reg's are *much* stricter for bacterial contamination of soymilk! Soy milk for human consumption has to test at less than 1,000,000 cells per liter. Cows milk is allowed to have up to 750,000,000 per liter!
    YUCK!!!!

  16. yunta51 says:

I think you should check to see if raw milk is legal in your state first. Then find a local supplier.
